Dia Azzawi talks at Dar el-Nimer
BEIRUT – Dar el Nimer presents a talk in Arabic by Iraqi artist Dia Azzawi on October 9, 2019. Featuring his installation ‘Wounded Soul’. The work uses the symbol of a horse as ‘an essential element in traditional narratives. It embodies the destruction caused by strife and the loss of thousands of innocent Iraqis to absurd wars which dragged the country into occupation, casualties and battles.’ Through this work, Azzawi pays tribute to the 450 assassinated Iraqi academics. He describes the assassinations as ‘’a mere continuation of the American occupation’s mission, followed by identity-based killing and thousands of prisoners.’
This talk is part of ‘Iraqisms’, a series of artistic and cultural events at Dar el-Nimer in partnership with Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung and curated by Rasha Salah
