One of Egypt’s most acclaimed contemporary artists, Mohamed Abla illuminates Egypt’s rich cultural heritage in his work, After graduating from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria in 1973, Mohamed Abla (1953) embarked upon a seven-year journey around Europe, studying art in Vienna and Zurich. He went on to win first prize at the Kuwait Biennale and the Grand Prix at the Alexandria Biennale. He is the founder of the collaborative workspace, the Fayoum Art Center and the first caricature museum in the Middle East. He has shown internationally in the Havana Biennale; Kunst Museum, Bonn; Hohmann Gallery, Germany; Gallery Ewat, Netherlands; Art Hall Orebro, Sweden; Egyptian Academy, Rome; among others.
