Creating work with a combination interests from social justice, the rhythm of music to religion and spiritualism, Hamed Al-Oweidy was a masterful calligrapher. He used each Arabic letter in all its malleable beauty to create modern forms and formats. Breaking with traditions, he was known for taking calligraphy out of the frame and even letters out of words.

With the image of Lebanese government officials upside down, reflecting the revolutionary rage at corruption, ستكون خراباً was drawn on the October 17 newspaper after the famous saying of Muthaffar Al-Nawab.

Typical of his work, "في الشام مرآة روحي" in reference to Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish (In Damascus lies the mirror of my soul) taken from the poem "In Damascus".
